How it works

From Idea to Prototype

1

Idea & Concept

You start with an idea, problem, or concept that needs a mechanical solution.

2

Design & CAD Modeling

Concepts are developed into precise 3D models using modern CAD tools.

3

Prototyping & Testing

Designs are rapidly prototyped and tested to refine performance and functionality.

4

Iteration & Final Design

The design is improved through iteration until it becomes a reliable final solution.

Engineering Curiosity into Real Projects

Lunzer Engineering is driven by Graham Lunzer, an aspiring mechanical engineer passionate about turning ideas into real, working designs. Through CAD modeling, rapid prototyping, and hands-on experimentation, Graham explores new engineering challenges while helping bring creative project ideas to life.

Vintage dirtbike racer and rebuilder John Woolsey approached Lunzer Engineering with a problem common on dual-sport Husqvarna motorcycles: the radiator fans push hot air directly back toward the rider’s knees, which becomes extremely uncomfortable during slow trail riding or hot weather. To solve this, we designed a set of custom surface inserts that mount along the side of the fuel tank and radiator shrouds. Using CAD modeling, the inserts were shaped to precisely follow the contours of the bike while redirecting airflow from the radiator fans perpendicular to the motorcycle instead of rearward toward the rider. This simple aerodynamic change allows the cooling system to function normally while preventing the hot airflow from blasting the rider’s knees. The result is a cleaner airflow path, improved riding comfort, and a discreet component that integrates seamlessly with the bike’s existing bodywork.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I receive a response within 24-48 hours?

Yes, absolutely! Our commitment is to get back to you promptly within 24-48 hours from the time of your inquiry. Your time is valuable, and we strive to provide swift and efficient communication.

Can I reach out with my own project idea?

Yes. If you have an idea or problem that might benefit from a custom design or prototype, you can reach out through the contact section. Lunzer Engineering enjoys exploring interesting challenges and helping turn ideas into working solutions whenever possible.

What tools and technologies are used?

Most designs are developed using modern CAD software and then tested through rapid prototyping methods such as 3D printing. This allows designs to move quickly from digital models to real-world parts that can be evaluated and improved.

Are these projects available to be viewed in detail?

Yes. Many projects are documented on this site through build logs, videos, and CAD renders. These posts show the design process, engineering challenges, and final solutions behind each project.
